The Islander took the first centre pass in Giants’ 58-53 triumph over NSW Swifts, but the newly-formed franchise’s first competitive victory was far from straight-forward.
‘We knew Swifts were going to be a good quality side and it was going to be tough to get over the line, so it was obviously good to get the win,’ said Guthrie.
‘The atmosphere was incredible – to see all our fans in orange was something special.’
Giants, one of three new clubs in the eight-team league, meet West Coast Fever on matchday two.
