The Caesareans, who finished a disappointing seventh on home soil two years ago, were yesterday placed in the same pool as their fellow Channel Islanders for Gotland 2017 – alongside 2015 bronze medallists Menorca and the Scottish isle of Orkney in Group A of the 16-team event.
Jersey’s women will meet the Isle of Wight and Gibraltar in the group stages of their tournament as they bid to win back-to-back gold medals.
‘Some of the other big teams have been drawn together – Guernsey’s group looks tough – so I think it’s a good draw for us,’ said men’s manager Martin Cassidy.
Women’s manager Simon Petulla was also pleased, despite his side being placed in a reduced group of three once again.
‘I would rather be in a group with four teams, but it was the same scenario for us last time and it obviously helped us,’ he said. ‘We were a little bit fresher when it came to the final.’
