Rugby reaction: Reds earn rub of the green

Ulster A retain top position after edging in 27-30 away to Cardiff Blues PS on Saturday, but only hold a one-point advantage over the Reds – and they must visit St Peter in the group’s final fixture in January.

Adair’s two scores, the first a sublime team effort, the second highly controversial, came some 50 minutes apart and sandwiched Sam Katz’s 13 points from the tee, squeezing out a Scottish side that had performed well though only crossing the Reds line once.

‘It’s important that we got that result tonight,’ said Reds head coach Harvey Biljon. ‘People will say we’ve won ugly, but conditions were tricky and we had to show a lot of character to come back at the end. Once again we had a lot thrown at us with injuries – again finishing with three scrum-halfs on the pitch.’
