THE Jersey Cricket Board has expressed an interest in hosting the next World Cricket League Division 5 tournament, after ICC Europe confirmed an U19 World Cup qualifier would be played in the Island next summer.

Jersey staged and won the last Division 5 tournament, held in May of this year, and JCB chief executive Chris Minty says his organisation will consider applying to host the event again.

Following the abolition of Division 6 last year, Division 5 is now the bottom rung of the World League structure and, as such, eight teams will contest the tournament – different to six teams in the other divisions.

ICC Europe announced on Friday that the Island would host the European Qualifier for the U19 Cricket World Cup next summer. The hosts will compete with Denmark, Ireland and Scotland for a single place at the ICC U19 World Cup, to be hosted in New Zealand.
