Longest ever Commonwealth relay route unveiled

Details of the 388-day tour were unveiled by the Australian city on Sunday to mark 500 days until the Games begin, and Jersey will welcome what is set to be the longest ever Commonwealth relay on Wednesday 13 September 2017.

The baton will start it’s journey at Buckingham Palace on Monday 13 March 2017 – Commonwealth Day – and after a 288-day international sector will embark on a 100-day domestic tour of Australia. It will conclude during the opening ceremony for the Games, on 4 April 2018.

‘We have got some good ideas already,’ said Jersey’s team manager Morag Obarska. ‘We’re going to be having something that’s a little more dramatic than last time as a bit of a showcase.’
