Rugby: Reds ready for big test

The 23-year-old lock was unveiled as club captain in July but was absent from the squad for the Islanders’ opening league match at Richmond last weekend. Although he has been selected in the second row tomorrow, in one of only two changes Harvey Biljon has made, Phillips will not lead his team on to the St Peter turf.

Instead, flanker James Freeman will hold on to the captaincy as the Reds welcome Bedford Blues.

Nick Campbell makes way for Phillips, while Max Argyle comes into the back row in place of the injured Gary Graham.

Jersey Reds: Marc Thomas, Joe Buckle, Simon Kerrod, Pierce Phillips, Dave McKern, Max Argyle, James Freeman (c), Nick Haining; Kieran Hardy, Brendan Cope; Ross Adair, Lewis Robling, Regan King, George Watkins, Jack Cuthbert.

Replacements: Nick Selway, Sean McCarthy, Mark Tampin, Uili Kolo’ofa’i, James Doyle, Sami Fisilau, Jordan Davies.

Full report in Friday’s JEP.
