Rugby: Ampthill – and Biljon – make life hard for Reds

‘I think that was exactly what we needed,’ said head coach Harvey Biljon. ‘We had a few playing together for the first time, particularly in midfield, but it was pleasing that they stuck to the stipulations we imposed on them – even though that meant it put them under pressure at times.

‘We didn’t have a lot of possession in the first half, but we showed what we could do when we did get hold of the ball. There’s a bit of frustration over inaccurate play; we twice went the length of the field but inaccuracy over the try-line denied us while line-out inaccuracy cost us a couple of chances in the second half, but overall it was a test we needed.’

The Reds’ final warm-up match, at home to Premiership club Worcester Warriors, kicks off at 2.30 pm this Saturday.
