Football: Law changes to be explained to clubs

World football’s governing body adapted their rule book ahead of the 2016/17 season, with the new regulations being enforced for the European Championships in France last month.

The changes affect kick-offs from the centre circle, punishments for denying goal-scoring opportunities and the taking of penalty kicks, and Jersey Football Combination president Charlie Browne is keen for everyone to be familiar with the basics before the next campaign begins in August.

Teams now only need one player in the centre circle at kick-off, as the ball can be played backwards, and a ‘last-man’ offence in the penalty area no longer leads to a straight red card.
