Athletics: Duquemin’s funding crisis

The 24-year-old recorded the second best throw of his career in Helsingborg on Sunday, but the 62.28-metre effort was short of the 65m required for Team GB selection and there are now financial concerns for next season.

Duquemin’s funding from the One Foundation ends later this year, as will an Olympic grant from the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund. Those cuts follow him being taken off the British Athletics funding list in 2015.

‘The throw on Sunday was my furthest since 2012, and my second best ever,’ said Duquemin. ‘So I’ll just keep chasing the big throw until September to bump my average up and see if I can persuade British Athletics to put me back on funding at the end of October.’
