Football: Morning fixtures on the way?

The parish club unveiled plans to shift their C team games forward at the Combination’s monthly meeting last week, and the potential introduction of Saturday morning matches is now set to be discussed when league officials meet for their annual general meeting on 11 July.

Ramsay Cudlipp, St John C’s new coach, believes 10.30 am kick-offs will help boost participation in those aged over 30, and says the move could also help alleviate referee shortages.

‘We need to be flexible and look at what people actually want if we are to keep them in the game, and several players have said that mornings would be much more convenient now that they have younger families,’ he said.
