Golf: Perfect weekend for Jersey quartet

And it crowned an excellent weekend for Jersey’s golfers as they also won the under-18 showdown and two women’s finals.

Stokes, of La Moye GC, led for much of the day but only saw off his stubborn opponent on the final green. The victory came after he carded an eagle two on the fifth – holing a 170-yard approach shot in the morning round.

Stokes’ club colleague Juanita Adlington was crowned women’s champion following a 4 and 2 triumph against Sarnian Kay Mapley, and there was a Bronze Division success for Les Mielles’ Hilary Nicholson against Claire Tee.

In the U18 final, Josef Hacker beat defending champion Trystan Perkins 6 and 5.

LA MOYE Golf Club’s Juanita Adlington followed up her first Jersey women’s golf Matchplay title success by winning the Channel Islands title on Sunday.

At L’Ancresse in Guernsey, Adlington recovered from a two-hole deficit after 18 holes to win 4 and 2 against six-time Sarnian champion Kay Mapley.

And to complete a miserable day for the hosts, Jersey won the women’s bronze divisional final 3 and 2 through Les Mielles GC’s Hilary Nicholson, against Claire Tee, and the CI under-18 final with La Moye’s Josef Hacker defeating holder Trystan Perkins 6 and 5.
