Football: Rule change required or Scottish face relegation

Unable to field a team against St Paul’s Reserves on 7 May, Scottish Reserves broke a Jersey Football Combination ruling which prohibits sides from scratching more than two games a season.

Matches against St Ouen Reserves, in March, and St Peter Reserves, in April, were also called off, and as a result they may not be permitted to enter a team for the next campaign.

Under current rulings, clubs without a reserve squad cannot compete in the Premiership – a law which led to First Tower United’s automatic relegation in 2014. However, a vote to abolish that regulation is believed to be planned for the JFC’s annual general meeting next month.

Scottish are set to register three teams, including one at over-35s, for next season, but the presence of their reserve side is also subject to a vote following their infringement.
