Cricket: ‘We’re not in the final yet’

Requiring a top two finish to secure their position in Saturday’s final, Jersey currently trail unbeaten leaders Oman by two points, and although level with the Sarnians, the hosts are behind on net run rate.

MacRae’s team must now beat Nigeria in their final group match tomorrow, while hoping Guernsey lose to the Omanis. If both Channel Islands secure the same result on the final day of group action, the team with the superior net run rate will reach the showdown and earn promotion.

Speaking after yesterday’s success, MacRae said: ‘We’re not in the final yet. There is a lot of cricket still to play and we know we have a massive game against Nigeria on Friday.’

Jersey bowled Guernsey out for 149 runs in 42.2 overs yesterday, before chasing the required total, for the loss of just three wickets, with relative ease.
