Cricket: Centurion Stevens expects Sarnian confidence

The 24-year-old all-rounder was instrumental in the Islanders’ comfortable win yesterday, as his unbeaten 103 runs – including six 4s and three 6s – paved the way for the 85-run success.

And he believes to win in the manner Jersey did was vital if they are to realise their dream of returning to Division 4.

‘We put a lot of runs on the board, which was great because we hadn’t managed that in the previous two games,’ said Stevens, who also took one wicket. ‘Going forward we need to do the same sort of thing but we might face more competition than we did today. With Guernsey coming up and Nigeria, those are two tough games so we have to continue this momentum and win those matches.’

On today’s must-win tie with Guernsey, Stevens said: ‘They have got off to a great start, they’ve got some great players and they have had three wins on the bounce.

‘They will be going in with a lot of confidence … so are we, but we have done it the tough way.’
