Following Steve Boden’s announcement that he will be leaving the Island this summer to join Yorkshire Carnegie, Rae has decided to make a switch from playing to coaching ahead of the 2016/17 campaign. The 30-year-old, who has guided Jersey to their best ever season in the Championship, will lead the Reds out at St Peter for the last time this Saturday when they welcome Boden’s next employers.
‘I’m really chuffed and honoured,’ said Rae. ‘I’ve got big shoes to fill in succeeding Steve Boden. He has taught me a lot and leaves the club in a good place, although there’ll be pressure to maintain and improve the club’s status after the last two seasons.’
The news comes as 15 players from Harvey Biljon’s professional squad have their departure from St Peter confirmed.
