Island’s first indoor athletics track included in Academy plans

Former Jersey RFC director of rugby Ben Harvey is at the forefront of an initiative aiming to provide ‘world class’ facilities for the sporting community, and a 40-metre indoor straight, similar to that seen at top venues around the country, features on drawings submitted to the Planning Department.

Jersey Spartan Athletic Club chair Paula Allbut believes the track will help to improve the quality of training for Island athletes as well as providing a boost to participation.

‘We’re delighted and excited by the plans,’ she said. ‘It would give our athletes the chance to train properly throughout the winter, especially those wanting to compete at a higher level, but it will also have a knock-on effect in the juniors because it will bring more children into athletics.’
