Netball: ‘Perfect game’ needed – Andrews

After a ‘harsh’ review of the 50-40 loss to Grangetown, the Caesareans have switched focus back to Fort Regent and a game that could prove crucial. A seventh win of the campaign could lift them into the playoffs, but they are also looking over their shoulders, knowing a defeat could drag them back into relegation trouble.

Tameside have steam rolled their way towards automatic promotion this term with 13 wins from 13. Only Jets have come close to giving the Mancunians the slightest worry – finishing just four goals behind when the sides met in November.

No other side has finished within ten.

Few would bet against the league leaders claiming the two further wins required to shift up into England Netball’s top division, but Andrews has belief that Jets – with the help of a strong home crowd – can delay their celebrations.

‘We just need to implement the most perfect game,’ she said.

Sunday’s defeat at Grangetown brought an end to a record-breaking unbeaten run for Jets which included five wins and a draw. It also denied them a place above the current occupants of third place, Worcester Reds, but Andrews says her players are prepared to give that leapfrogging act another go.

‘We need lots of energy and to totally believe that we can deliver the right ball every time,’ she said. ‘Last weekend was a really bad weekend for us, but we’ve drawn a line under it and we’re not going to go down tomorrow without a fight.’
