World award for swimmer Tréhiou

Tréhiou has received recognition for her solo swim from St Malo to Jersey last year by being named in the 2015 Global Marathon Swimming Awards to gain the Yudovin Award for Most Adventurous Swim.

Tréhiou said: ‘It’s quite a privilege to receive an award like this; the Marathon Swimmers Federation is American-based and a world-wide organisation so it’s great to get Jersey on the map.

‘I’m not aware yet how I was nominated; I think nominations can be made on-line and then the Federation look through them and decide the winners.

‘I’ve not heard anything from them and I expect I will be notified by post or possibly email soon.’

Five-time English Channel conqueror Tréhiou, three solos and one two-way swim, will be taking a bit of rest this year.

She said: ‘I had some surgery late last year and although I’m chomping at the bit to get into the water, I’ve done a lot over the last four years so I’m going to take a step back and concentrate on my work as president of the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club this year.

‘I’m not stopping entirely, I have several small swims planned including a Cancer Survivors’ Channel relay early in August with Jersey’s Linda Devereux and Dee Richards, two people from the UK and an American.

‘I plan to do another Channel crossing in 2017 and maybe Guernsey to Jersey as well.’

The MSF’s solo swim of the year award went to Australia’s Chloe McCardel who completed a three-way English Channel swim (63 miles, 101.4 km) in 36 hours and 12 minutes.

Asked if a triple Channel crossing is in her sights, Tréhiou said: ‘Two-way was tough enough.’
