Rugby: England juniors jet in to bolster Biljon’s backs

Bath juniors Rory Jennings and Max Clark have moved to St Peter on loan until the end of the current season, and as the Reds approach this weekend’s crucial cup clash at Doncaster – and a trip to Bristol next Sunday – head coach Harvey Biljon is looking forward to seeing them in action.

‘It’s great that we have been able to add two really exciting young players to our squad going into the final three months of the season,’ said Biljon.

‘They will provide some real competition for places with our existing squad members, which will help towards our aim of maintaining or improving our current league standing.’

The pair, who played for England at the U20 World Championship last year alongside fellow loanee Tom Howe, both have first team experience for Bath.

Max Clark made his Premiership debut for Bath in October

Fly-half Jennings – scorer of almost 100 points for England U20s – played for the West Country outfit in their 2014/15 LV Cup campaign, while Clark –a centre who can also shift to fullback – made his Premiership debut at The Rec in October in the home side’s 19-17 defeat of Exeter.

‘We’ve had to work hard to consolidate our position in the Championship, raising standards on and off the pitch, to a level where I can talk to my counterparts at Premiership clubs and secure players of this calibre,’ Biljon added.

Having joined the rest of Jersey’s playing staff earlier this week, Jennings and Clark are available for selection for Saturday’s tie at Castle Park.

An away win would guarantee the Islanders a place in the B&I Cup quarter-finals for the first time in the club’s history before they look to push on from fifth place in the league.
