Youth Commonwealth Games: Records continue to tumble

Pollard (pictured) has obviously fully recovered from the upset stomach from which she was suffering earlier this week, as she twice bettered her own Island record in the 100m butterfly, while Corrigan set a new 200m backstroke junior Island record.

Pollard just missed out on the A final as she set an Island record of 64.46 secs in the heats – a mark she improved further to 63.98 in finishing 10th in the B final.

Corrigan swam a controlled race to finish eight in the A final of the 200m back in a time of 2 min 10.94 sec; a new PB and junior Island record. Corrigan’s time is also a ‘gold squad’ qualifying time for the Scottish squad programme.

Harry Shalamon and Cameron Swart both raced well, with the former combining the 100 fly followed immediately by the 200 back. Both Shalamon and Swart set new PBs in the 100 fly B final. Beckie Scaife also swam excellently alongside Pollard in the 100m fly B final.

Away from the pool, Yuri Pereira set a new personal best in the men’s shot put, throwing 15.02 metres to finish tenth overall. The event was won with a throw of 20.1m.
