Youth Commonwealth Games: Youngsters continue to shine in Samoa

Dami Williams was again in fine form on the athletics track where although he missed out on qualifying, he ran a personal best time of 22.40 seconds in the 200 metres to place fifth in his heat.

Williams’ PB, in an event he rarely runs, was .40 secs away from Kieran Palmer’s Island under-20 record of 22.00 achieved at the FB Fields in 2004.

Meanwhile Sam Maher’s 800 metres heat was too fast for him as he finished in two minutes 1.11 seconds to place fourth out of sixth runners.

Jersey’s athletics programme concludes tomorrow with Yuri Pereira competing in the shot putt.

Swimming had another full day of PBs together with two A-finals and three B-finals.

Nathan Corrigan, a Scotland development international, gained a PB of four minutes 43.93 seconds to place seventh in the 400m individual medley before then matching his PB time in the 100m breast-stroke final – two fine performances from the 15 year old.

Harry Shalamon (pictured) had a nightmare start in the 50m backstroke A-final as his feet slipped on the wall. His 27.65 time was 0.1 slower than his morning heat but still a good swim.

Cameron Swart had two 50m backstroke races and his morning time of 31.28 was improved to 30.39 as he ended up 14th.

Olivia Pollard, feeling much better after her upset stomach the previous day, was buzzing with a 60.66 100m freestyle PB this morning before then going on to register an improved time of 59.39 in the evening.
