JEP Fanzone: Villians, or unlikely heroes?

Property negotiator Bradley Vowden and mortgage manager Robert Timm (a JFA referee) are in focus this week, while Island women’s football captain Jodie Botterill aims to do better than manager Simon Petulla in the Score Predictor.

Former England footballer Graeme Le Saux still tops the table for the guests with his three points in Week One.

Bradley Vowden (Villa) Robert Timm (Sunderland)
43 Age 25
Partner, Gaudin & Co Occupation Mortgage manager
‘Since I was born. My father supported Villa after his brother Geoff signed for them in 1971 after spells at Nottingham Forest and then Birmingham City. I was lucky enough to be taken to watch Villa from a young age with my parents but games that stand out were the two League Cup final victories over Man Utd in 1994 (3-1) and Leeds Utd in 1996 (3-0). With my mother being a Geordie I did get to watch a few games at St James Park too, but let’s keep that quiet.’ How long have you supported/suffered? ‘Since I was six, my first game was Sunderland vs Hull City at Roker Park in 1995 – it finished 0-0 and I remember being extremely bored … hardly endeared myself to the club!’
‘Having three generations of Vowdens at Wembley last year to watch Villa beat Liverpool 2-1 in the FA Cup semi final. It was the first time that my son Jack had been to Wembley and it was special to be able to take him and my dad and watch Villa win. (We didn’t go to the final…)’ Most memorable moment? ‘We don’t have too much to cheer so probably being at Wembley for the Capital One Cup final against Man City. The atmosphere when Borini gave us the lead rivals anything I’ve witnessed.’
‘Gary Shaw. He was a player that I remember throughout his career for both scoring and creating goals. I remember the European Cup success in 1982 when Shaw fed Tony Morley down the left, who crossed for Peter Withe to smash in the winner for that memorable night in Rotterdam. I was only ten at the time but those memories never go away.’ Best ever player? ‘Super Kevin Phillips – he is the first and still the only Englishman to win the European Golden Boot, and he will always be a club legend! I’ll never forget when he chipped the Newcastle goalkeeper in the pouring rain as we beat them away 2-1 in 1999!’
‘Recently Stephen Ireland and Alan Hutton (unfortunately one still plays).’ And the worst? ‘There’s a very long list! I think probably Jon Stead, he was around when we got the worst ever points total in the Premier League and didn’t score for almost a year. Awful for a striker!’
‘Having family in the North East from the Black and White side this is easy. Villa will win 3-0 with the new star of this young Villa side, Traore, scoring a brace and Scott Sinclair the other.’’ Score prediction ‘I think 1-1, more in hope than anticipation. We shipped three goals at home to League Two Exeter in the cup and have had an awful start to the season, but Villa haven’t fared much better themselves. A point would be a good result for us.’
