The former professional, who was once under contract at Southampton and Airdrie United, has held discussions with Green Lions manager Tony Vance in recent weeks and says he will sign for the Ryman South outfit if funding for travel can be arranged.

‘Tony has been in touch over the past month and has said he’s interested in me to start playing,’ said Boyle. ‘It was something I was considering, and to be honest it is looking likely if sponsorship can be sorted.’

The 24-year-old explained that due to work commitments here he would remain living in Jersey and fly across twice a week for training and matches. The deal would indeed affect his involvement with Jersey Football Combination Premiership leaders Scottish, but he said the opportunity to play in the UK leagues is something he is reluctant to turn down.

‘A lot of people will look at it from a Jersey versus Guernsey point of view, but at the end of the day GFC are just a normal club playing in an English division. If it was any other English team wanting me to play I would do the same, as would 99 per cent of players.

‘It would be the same rules for me as the other lads there. I can still play for my club here and also for Jersey, and although there is a good chance I’ll be playing for Guernsey next season my focus remains 100 per cent on Jersey at the moment.

‘With the Muratti and Island Games coming up I will be giving my all to beat Guernsey and then to win gold, and after that I will look into it all a bit more seriously.’

Scottish manager Stuart Knox, who will be without Boyle for the majority of the season if the move is completed, said: ‘Jack is arguably the best player on the Island so he would be a sore one to lose, but everyone wants to play at the highest level they can. I want to see people progress, so if he did sign for them I would shake his hand and wish him all the best. Obviously he wants to push himself and I can’t fault that.’
