Football: New face in Island squad, and Golden Boot revealed

Reilly said: ‘I have seen Nathan a couple of times now and I was impressed with his performance on Saturday against Trinity.

‘He’s a big lad who is comfortable on the ball so I’ve decided to have a look at him and give him an opportunity at another level.’

THE squad announcement comes following news that the Jersey Football Combination Premiership’s top-goal scorer for the 2014/15 season will be the first recipient of the Jersey Evening Post Gold Boot Award.

The JEP are to present a Golden Boot to the Jersey Football Combination for their leading Premiership marksman at the end of each season, with goals scored in club first-team league and cup matches all counting.

Daryl Wilson, the 2013/14 JFC Premiership player of the year, leads the goal-scoring charts with 21 goals

Goals scored in the annual inter-parish Trinity Shield competition will not be included as it is restricted to Jersey-born players only.

Jersey Football Combination delegates accepted the JEP’s proposal for the new trophy at February’s monthly meeting at the Geoff Reed Table Tennis Centre, and it comes into play immediately.

The award will be presented to the winner at the league’s annual awards presentation evening at the end of the season.

JFC president Tim Darwin said: ‘The first thing that springs to mind is why have we not had a Golden Boot before?

‘We are grateful to the Jersey Evening Post for their support and I’m sure it will be a trophy a lot of players will be extremely keen to win.’

The perpetual Golden Boot will be awarded together with a replica.
