Silver double for Spartans duo

Livingston, who was refused entry into his favoured event in last year’s competition following an administrative error by the Channel Islands’ English Schools committee in Guernsey, finished second in the Senior Boys 400m hurdles with a time of 53.46 seconds. But, as his coach Andrew Winnie explained, the medal the 17-year-old received could well have had a more pleasing golden appearance.

Leerson had no such trouble in reaching (and surpassing) his personal best. In the opening round of the Junior Boys javelin the 14-year-old, who was making his first English Schools appearance, reached a quite superb 49.31m — over six metres further than his previous record and quite rightly good enough to put him in the lead.

But it wasn’t to be, with UK number one Jude Compton-Stewart stealing top spot in the final round with 52.93m. Nonetheless, Leerson’s mark has placed him second in the under-15 UK rankings for 2014.
