Inter-island cricket fixtures in doubt

According to both the Jersey Cricket Board and its equivalent in Guernsey, the cost of transferring teams has drastically increased and in some cases, scheduled flights mean visiting teams won’t be able to return home on the same day.

Chief executive of the JCB Chris Minty says the changes have caused major problems and in some instances, the only available option is to charter flights – but that could cost considerably more for Jersey’s cricketers.

Aurigny’s aircraft are based in Guernsey, meaning the JCB would have to pay for the plane to get to Jersey at the beginning of the day to collect the squad and return empty in the evening.

Full report in Saturday’s JEP.
