JERSEY’S Elizabeth Cann may have lost her national badminton women’s singles title, but she has ruled out retirement and insists representing Jersey at the Commonwealth Games is her target.

The 33-year-old retired in her quarter-final against eventual beaten finalist Fontaine Chapman with a back complaint while trailing 23-21 and 15-9 in the second set.

But the five-time national champion – once ranked as high as 27th in the world – insisted she is need of rest if she is to make it to Glasgow next year.

‘I’m not saying I’m going to retire, but I just have to look after my body first and then make a decision,’ she said.
