Family matters force Helen to lose focus facing Guernsey

The 73-year-old said her concentration wavered as she looked to see how her granddaughter Chloë was doing in the under-25 ladies’ final on another rink.

Greechan snr, a British Isles beaten pairs finalist two years ago, was holding a 17-6 lead against Guernsey’s Alison Merrien, currently ranked three in the world, but Greechan’s concentration went as she looked to see how 12-year-old Chloë was getting on.

Merrien got back to win the ladies’ singles final 21-18 while young Chloë was beaten on the final three ends to be edged out in a fine game, 21-19 on the 28th end, having led 12-7 and 19-16.
