WORLD LEAGUE cricket will return to Jersey after the Island was selected to host next year’s ICC World Cricket League Division VI tournament.

The home advantage could prove crucial in assisting Jersey in their bid to return to Division V. Not only would this mean higher quality matches, it would decrease the risk of them being eliminated should a WCL structure review suggest reducing the number of divisions available.

Jersey Cricket Board chief executive officer Chris Minty said: ‘The whole WCL scenario is being reviewed. There have been up to eight divisions but they might reduce this to six or seven so it’s very important that Jersey keeps going up the ladder.’

Not all its cracked up

Bring on the world? It's about time Jersey woke up and realised that the words that come out of Jersey crickets mouth is absolute rubbish.

The island is not in a great place with fewer and fewer players in the sport, and the majority of its team playing at one club.

Its about time that the whole scene had a good shake up and saw that the progression of youth just isn't there, and the quality of players just isn't good enough to compete. We only have a small pool, but its about time the JCB had a good long hard look at themselves and perhaps looked outside the box instead of putting a whole load of 'spin' on things.

Cricket is dying, and they need to stand up and take stock of their short comings instead of pretending its all rosy!

Well done to Chris Minty and the rest of the team for impressing the ICC yet again. Testament to the work of everyone involved, including groundsmen, that Jersey has been chosen. Now up to the players to do well!

Reality check

Reality is none of the other countries in that division have the facilities to hold the tournament. Got nothing to do with the jcb. We are just lucky we have more turf wickets than the rest. Agree with 1. Shake up needed. Cricket is on its needs. Still find the spin very amusing though! Looks great on the outside, but anyone who knows anything about cricket on the island know they how poor it's run. Onwards and downwards!

Reality Check

Not true. Kuwait hosted World Cricket League Seven or Eight on turf wickets and Argentina hosted World Three or Four on turf wickets as well. Jersey beat off both of those to host it, so credit where credit's due. Hope Grainville is sorted out though after its deterioration in recent years. Needs digging up and relaying as its the worst of all the squares and isn't fit for staging big games.

Was Bean Cricket Fan!

Last time I checked Jersey were in World League 4! Now they are in 6, and this is the 2nd tournament in that League!! Guernsey started in 8 and now they are in 5 - I hope the JCB are totally embarressed! Surely heads rolled or changes have been made. Some of the "deadwood" must have been replaced at the top, still cant work out what they do apart from have sore backs from all the self inflicted back slapping that goes on!

Jersey "Keeps going up the Ladder", what planet are you on? Jersey havent been up any ladder since 2008 when they had a decent team. We are now 5 years down the line and nothing is any different, apart from key players have quit and cricket is as weak as its ever been. Back to 1 game a year if they dont pulled their heads out of the sand!

Rename

To be fair, if Jersey cricket renamed itself Victoria college cricket board I think a little more effort and time would be put in by certain board members and in particular the CEO, who is also the master in charge of cricket of the school, conflict of interest??? How has this been allowed to continue for so long? O that's right, the people who the CEO reports to are old Victorians! When representing your school is more important than representing your country questions really need to be asked. The support received by the clubs at league level is ridiculously poor and when things are not going well the finger is pointed at the players and clubs, never prepared to look at themselves and wonder why there is such a massive drop out of not only young players but also experienced players who have finished much earlier than they should have done. With so many disgruntled players in jersey, have the JCB never wondered why players are so unhappy, they can't all be wrong, or are the JCB that arrogant, well look at the school the majority went to and the answer is obvious? Basically management is terrible, communication none existent, transparency clear as mud, ethos completely amateur and board members way above their station when really they have little experience in any other cricket capacity. Aiming high takes effort and excellent management and innovators, settling for where jersey cricket is now (in a mess) takes nothing, which is what jersey cricket is going to end up with unless they take better care of their biggest assets! The players and the clubs, which is something they forgot a long time ago.
