A THIRD generation artificial playing surface (3G) and another floodlit pitch are high on the wanted list of Jersey football clubs – and that could also benefit schools and other sports.

The Football Association’s facilities scheme, explained in detail during a visit to the Island by regional facilities and investment manager Dylan Evan last week, is very much about providing money to develop new, or help improve existing, facilities – and a 3G playing surface is top of the wanted list.

This has, no doubt been influenced by the Combination Select’s glowing endorsement of the surface after their victory in the FA’s Inter-League Cup final in the Isle of Man last April.

Evans met club representatives at St Peter Football Club last week, a meeting also attended by Deputy Roy Le Hérissier and Derek de la Haye, of Education Sport and Culture, to discuss how to sustain current football facilities and look to secure current sites and build for the future.
