Explaining our ‘Ice Age Island’

A series of archaeological digs, which have been supported by Jersey Heritage, are part of the ‘Ice Age Island’ project designed to find out more about Jersey’s prehistoric past.

Dr Matt Pope, a senior research fellow of the Institute of Archaeology at University College London, has said that new evidence they have uncovered shows signs that man was cooking and creating fire at the site near Les Varines.

It comes after a mammoth tooth was uncovered earlier this month.

Yesterday, many Islanders took the opportunity to learn more about Jersey’s prehistoric past as the site was opened to the public.
