Training event to help retail staff cope in terror scenario

Participants will be shown videos depicting a range of terror attack scenarios during a three-hour session while having the opportunity to discuss how they would, should and could respond.

The exercise, known as Project ARGUS Retail, is specifically targeted at Islanders who work in the retail sector. Tickets for the event, which will be delivered by Counter Terrorism Security Advisers from the South West Counter Terrorism Unit, are free. Two sessions are due to be held on 15 November. Project Argus has already been held in areas across Britain.

A spokeswoman for the States police said that although there is no intelligence to suggest an attack in Jersey is likely, the training was all about being prepared for a worse-case scenario.

She added that Islanders who do attend can take away skills with them that are relevant anywhere in the world and said it was particularly poignant following recent events in Barcelona.
