Drink-driver likely to lose job as delivery man

On Tuesday 22 September 2009 at about 2.20 am, Jose Paulo Silva Serrao (37), of New Street, almost collided on Rouge Bouillon with a police car coming from the opposite direction. As a result, the police pursued the blue Vauxhall Astra he was driving before it pulled over outside Convent Court.

The court heard that a breathalyser at Police headquarters showed that Serrao had 62 mcg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath when the legal limit is 35 mcg.

Advocate Estelle Burns, defending, said that the defendant was not thinking straight when he got behind the wheel. She said that earlier in the evening he had consumed a drink in the Portuguese Club, as there was a celebration for his daughter. However, he then received a phone call to say that his father had died.
