Spooked snake spotted slithering down town

The 2-ft long lavender corn snake was captured by a JSPCA staff member after it was spotted by a passer-by in Duhamel Place on Tuesday afternoon.

It was described as being ‘a little bit spooked’ but otherwise in good health.

Corn snakes, which are considered harmless but will bite if threatened, have become increasingly popular pets in recent years.

A JSPCA spokeswoman said it is believed the snake was a pet which lived nearby, and added: ‘We have more snakes brought to us than people think – we have six or seven at the moment.’
