Charity abseil supporters angered by entry charge

As part of the Jersey Alzheimer’s Association’s ‘Be a Daredevil for Dementia’ campaign 11 people took on the challenge on Sunday and raised more than £2,000.

But some spectators have been left disappointed after being charged to enter the Jersey Heritage site.

One Islander said about 30 spectators showed up but in the end ‘only three or four’ paid the entry fee.

‘We tried to negotiate and offer £5 and said we were only coming in for five minutes but they said no chance,’ he added.

Mark Blamey, manager for the Jersey Alzheimer’s Association, said he was unaware of any issues but vowed to liaise closer with Jersey Heritage in the future to avoid any problems.

‘Jersey Heritage are a charity as well. I would hope to be able to make some sort of payment towards a concession for people coming along to support,’ he said.

‘What is not going to work is anybody who wants to support friends and family having to pay £12.20.’

Jersey Heritage were contacted for comment.
