Tower of London-style flower scheme to benefit Hospice

The flowers have been produced by Johnson Tiles, in England, which also manufactured some of the poppies for the Tower of London display in 2014 which commemorated the centenary of the start of the First World War.

The ceramic flowers form part of a new campaign called ‘Planted with Love to Remember a Loved One’.

They will initially be planted in the gardens at Jersey Hospice Care from Thursday to coincide with this year’s Battle of Flowers daytime parade. Anyone who has bought one of the flowers, which can be purchased for a minimum donation of £30 each, will then be able to collect them at a later date.

Steven Hunt, the charity’s chairman of fundraising, said: ‘We are inviting Islanders to remember their loved ones by buying one of our high-quality, glazed yellow ceramic flowers.

‘They will initially be planted in the gardens at Jersey Hospice Care, creating a dazzling yellow display for everyone to enjoy to coincide with the Battle of Flowers.

‘On 8 October, the Vicar of St Andrew’s Church, Mark Barrett, will hold a Remembering with Love service, which those who have purchased flowers will be able to attend.

Shortly after the service, they will be able to collect a flower and its stem, which they can place in their garden or even inside their home as a keepsake.’

The charity hope to raise thousands of pounds via the campaign.

The flowers can be bought online at jerseyhospicecare.com, where individuals will also be able to leave a dedication.
