Hunt for Guernsey duck killer raises £700

The image of five ducks lying dead on a road in the parish of Vale sparked outrage among residents. Within 24 hours, the picture, which was posted on Facebook, received more than 1,000 interactions and 500 comments.

An Islander then set up a fundraising page in an effort to raise a £200 reward for anyone who could identify the killer. The page quickly raised double its target and by mid-week had collected £700.

The man behind the fundraising effort, Bob Ceillam, said that if the culprit was not found, the money would be donated to the GSPCA. When the photos appeared online, the GSPCA announced they had been called to the site.

‘The GSPCA were called out to a number of ducks that were killed on the road in the Capelles area.

Guernsey police have also said they were aware of the incident.

The ‘unnecessary killing, injury, ill-treatment or suffering’ of an animal is against Guernsey law, which also includes ‘offences against wild animals’.
