Condor to resume normal service

On Monday evening, the Liberation developed an issue with its exhaust system on one of its three engines, which was subsequently shut down.

The ferry operator said that the problem would have compromised the ship’s ability to manoeuvre while in port against predicted windspeeds of up to 40 knots.

Passengers due to travel on the Liberation were given alternative options, including transferring their booking onto the conventional Clipper ferry, rescheduling or receiving a full refund.

On Tuesday the company said that the fault had been successfully repaired. In a statement Condor said: ‘After reviewing forecasts with the Master of Liberation we are optimistic that service will go ahead on Thursday 3 August. However, the forecast remains inclement and we will continue to monitor the weather forecasts as they are received.’

Services between the Channel Islands and St Malo were also expected to run as normal after many were rescheduled the previous day because the Liberation was unavailable to operate inter-island services.
