Doorman assaulted by clubbers at closing time

Diogo Andrade da Silva Carvalho (27), of Rouge Bouillon, was ordered to pay £1,200 while Carlos Fernando De Andrade Maldando Severino (21), of Devonshire Place, was fined £800.

Centenier David Webber said that the incident happened when a member of the door staff asked the defendants to leave the Havana Club at about 2.15 am on 20 May as the premises were closing. He said they became argumentative and Severino threw a punch that hit the victim’s face.

The court heard that as the doorman tried to restrain Severino, Carvalho grabbed him from behind and put him in a headlock before other door staff intervened.

The victim sustained minor injuries to his bottom lip. The court heard that Severino was a first offender but Carvalho had a previous conviction for a similar offence.

Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris said: ‘All pubs and clubs have to close at some point and people have to leave the premises. It is the job of the door staff to maintain good order and that includes making sure people have left the premises when they are no longer allowed there.’

He said that the men had to learn to moderate their drinking.
