Drink-driver fined £2,400

Craig Riley (26), of Worsley Mesnes, Wigan, committed the offences on Liberation Day in the Kiosk car park at Bel Royal when a Lexus he was driving hit two other vehicles as he left the area.

A witness reported that he saw there was minor damage to the two cars, but Advocate James Bell, defending, said that there were no complaints from other vehicle owners.

Riley was seen to drive the Lexus out of the car park and then travel along Victoria Avenue towards town.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that the registered keeper of the Lexus was the defendant’s uncle.

He told police that his nephew was driving and gave them the address he was staying at.

The lowest breathalyser sample taken from Riley at Police headquarters was 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 ml of breath – twice the legal limit of 35 mcg.
