Letter to the Editor: The position of Chief Minister can be filled by any Member

There may be Senators who could fill the role, but as long as we have ‘collective responsibility’ they are seen as part of the Council of Ministers and part of the problem.

This silly idea needs to go and ministers need to be allowed to have their own voice, so that the public can gauge their true worth.

It is clear that we also need to bring back the Senatorial seats that were taken away, because eight people with an Island mandate is not enough. I would conclude by saying that nowhere in the law does it state that the Chief Minster must be a Senator and any Member voting next week needs to remember that they must stay within the law, and not their interpretation of it because it suits them.
