Rescued seal pup to be returned to the sea

Sami was rescued by JSPCA staff and volunteers from British Divers Marine Life Rescue after she was found by a dog walker in Bonne Nuit.

She was transferred to Guernsey and now, after receiving six months of care, is due to be released near the Ecréhous.

The GSPCA now needs a boat owner to come forward to help take Sami to the reef.

Steve Byrne, GSPCA manager, said: ‘We are so excited to announce that Sami the seal pup is ready to be released back in the waters where she was found only days after Christmas so close to death.

‘It has been an amazing pan-island operation to rescue and care for Sami and we are now appealing for help to transport her by boat to the Ecréhous where it would be ideal for a seal release close to Jersey.

‘If someone hasn’t got a boat but could donate in excess of £500 we have had a very kind offer to take her there and would happily take the individual with us.

‘We really hope someone will be kind enough to help Sami the seal at the GSPCA get back to Jersey waters where she belongs.’
