Letter to the Editor: Filmed evidence would give a truer picture in court

Many years ago, 27 in fact, I was a bouncer on the other side of the water – Plymouth then being my home town, the strip on Union Street being my night-time destination.

In those day racial abuse or physical threats were unfortunately part of the job. However, due to Jersey laws, behaviour of this nature is now classed as harassment and seen to be a very serious offence.

Let us all remember a citizen’s arrest is always an option – a defence restraint covered by the law.

And the boys and girls in blue uniforms, where are they?

In my opinion, legislators should introduce a law which insists, and indeed orders, all licensed premises to offer some filmed coverage, videotape or any other reliable material, to provide evidence in a court room. Filmed coverage would show a truer picture. They do it in England.
