Mansell enters Motorsport Hall of Fame

The Islander, who was crowned the F1 World Champion in 1992, accepted the award at the Royal Automobile Club in Surrey, surrounded by the likes of Mark Blundell, Dario Franchitti and David Brabham.

Mr Mansell said that it had been a ‘very special’ ceremony and that he was humbled to have received more votes than other worthy candidates.

‘It was a really wonderful evening and it was great to be surrounded by lots of other inductees with incredible stories.

‘I have some absolutely fantastic memories of travelling across the world and driving on lots of different circuits – some of them do not even exist anymore as they are too dangerous. The memories all came flooding back,’ he said.

Other drivers in the running to be inducted into the Motorsport Hall of Fame F1 category included Gilles Villeneuve, Mike Costin and Keith Duckworth.
