Vallois: ‘I don’t want to be Chief Minister’

Chief Minister Ian Gorst could be ousted if a vote of no confidence lodged by St John Constable Chris Taylor, which has the support of 13 other politicians, is successful.

And several of the signatories – including Mr Taylor – have publicly backed St John Deputy Tracey Vallois as the person to take over as Chief Minister should Senator Gorst be removed.

However, Deputy Vallois, who has signed the proposition, has said that she is not interested in the job.

‘As long as we have ministerial government, my view is that the Chief Minister and Treasury Minister roles are so important they should come from the Senatorial benches.

‘I don’t have any intention to stand as Chief Minister. It should be a Senator – they have stood on an Islandwide mandate and had their policies tested on that basis.

‘People have spoken to me and asked “would you consider it” and I have always said no,’ she said.
