Driver filmed going wrong way up road

He recorded the dangerous driving of Mandarin Ionut Spinu (33), of Mont Sohier, St Brelade, on a dash cam.

The taxi driver followed the blue Mercedes driven by Spinu down Pier Road in the early hours of 4 March before it turned right and drove towards the Royal Square before being stopped outside Chambers by a police officer.

The defendant admitted charges of dangerous driving and being unfit to drive through taking the painkilling drug Tramadol.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that he said he got the Tramadol in his native Romania and was under the impression he had been prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs.

He was sentenced to 120 hours’ community service and banned from driving for two years.

Advocate Lauren Glynn, defending, said that his actions were ‘out of character’.
