Chris Ambler said that the idea would encourage more people to use electric vehicles.
According to a Freedom of Information request, in 2016, 50 electrically powered vehicles were registered in Jersey – five more than in 2015.
Mr Ambler said: ‘Parking is a very big deal here and people pay a lot for it. Although it is not always super convenient, there is spare capacity in a lot of car parks here.
‘I would take something meaningful. I would take a whole floor of Pier Road car park and offer free parking for electric cars.’
He added: ‘A third of the Island’s carbon emissions come from transport. If the Island is serious about decarbonising then it would be well advised to have a programme of effort on transportation.’
Mr Ambler also said that his company could consider helping to fund the installation of charging points but stressed that the idea was only in a theoretical stage.
