New police chief may be from overseas

Last month the current chief officer, Mike Bowron, who has served the Island since 2011, announced that he was due to retire in September after meeting all his ‘goals and challenges’ in the Island. His contract was extended less than two years ago to run until 2021.

The deputy chief officer is Rob Bastable, but when asked if he was likely to replace Mr Bowron or whether it would be an officer from overseas, Home Affairs Minister Kristina Moore said: ‘There is a lot to consider and we are not ready to make an announcement yet.’

Two Jersey officers, Superintendent James Wileman and Chief Inspector Matt Le Monnier, are on a UK fast-track scheme designed to accelerate them through the ranks.
