Guernsey runway plans are cleared for take-off

The move, which features in a proposed capital portfolio for the next four years published by the island’s Policy & Resources Department this week, would enable larger planes to land in Guernsey.

A formal bid to extend the runway was submitted by Economic Development last year.

At the time, committee vice president and long-term runway proponent Jan Kuttelwascher said a business case about the merits of the project would be drawn up.

He estimated a £30-million price tag to create a 1,720-metre runway, which would be slightly longer than Jersey’s.

No cost-estimates for individual projects for the capital portfolio have been included at this stage.
