Knifepoint robber gets four-year jail sentence

Pawel Dzielak entered Temple Stores on Stopford Road and ordered the shopkeeper to give him ‘all the money quickly’, while slamming a 10 cm blade on the counter.

The 32-year-old, who is originally from Poland then grabbed the shopkeeper’s mobile and landline phone to try to stop him from calling the police.

The court heard yesterday that Dzielak was spotted several times near Temple Stores on Thursday 5 January and was thought to have spent time there to get ‘an idea of the layout of the shop and to plan the robbery’.

Dzielak’s phone records showed that earlier that day he had searched for ‘criminal law in Jersey robbery’ and ‘States of Jersey Police – Performance Statistics’.

After the robbery, Dzielak used some of the money to stay in a hotel for a few nights in a bid to avoid arrest. He was arrested at his home five days later.
